The “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign was introduced in October 2014 to address the issue of declining child sex ratio and was officially launched on 22nd January 2015 by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi in Panipat, Haryana.

In August 2016 Olympic 2016 bronze medalist Sakshi Malik who was made the brand ambassador of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative in Haryana. To use the power of the internet and social media Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced #SelfieWithDaughter hashtag to create awareness about the importance of saving a girl child in June 2015 which became famous worldwide.

To make this campaign successful, the government have planned many strategies such as implementing a sustained social mobilization and communication campaign to create equal value for a girl child and promote education; focusing on gender critical districts and cities low on child sex ratio for intense efforts; ensuring that the service delivery structures and programs are efficient responsive to issues of gender and children’s rights; placing the issue of declining child sex ratio in public discourse and improving it would be an indicator of good governance.

To maintain the balance of nature and male-female sex ratio, we need to take action and save the girl child from female foeticide, gender discrimination, dowry killings and many other problems faced by girls in India and around the world.
