We Indians proudly say “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, it means we are one and we are proud of it (One India, Great India). India is the land of diversity in race, region, caste, language, landform and so on. It has thousands of years old, historical and religious culture, one of the oldest known to humans.

It is a vast country with a population of 1.3 billion which live together in different states having different languages like Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi Assamese, etc are spoken in different states of India. Indians celebrate many major festivals like Diwali, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Ramadan, Eid, Muharram, etc. across the globe and in India. Unity in diversity is India’s unique value proposition.

Each of the Indian state and region, in particular, has its own festivals and with unique ways of celebrating them, there are some festivals which are restricted to particular states like Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra, Baisakhi in Punjab, Ugadi in the Andhra Pradesh, Bihu in Assam whereas there are some festivals which have a different name but are the same. Though the names are different all of these festivals in India share similar purpose and importance.

Not only festivals there are different art forms, sculptures, etc which are diverse. The same goes for different music forms like Bhangra, Lavani, Garba, etc. The Indian states are so much different that there is always something new to explore from each of the states. Still, you will find a south Indian fan dancing on Punjabi track and a Haryanvi girl learning Bharatnatyam.

Therefore during the Rashtriya Ekta Divas that is on 31st October Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a campaign called ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ which means One India, Great India. The main agenda of this campaign is to connect two different states every year.

This activity will include linking of various States and Districts in annual programs that will connect people through exchanges in culture, tourism, language, education, trade, etc. and citizens will be able to experience the cultural diversity of a much larger number of States and Union territories while realizing that India is one thus leading to stronger unity and integrity among the people of India.

For this Government of India has started a scheme, a portal where people can put in their ideas or suggestions for this campaign to help the Government of India to have this campaign a great success. The primary objective of this campaign is to celebrate the unity of India. To promote the spirit of National Integration through structured engagement between the Indian state and Union territory.

To create an environment that will promote learning between states and share practices and experiences and also inter-state travel for boosting business activities. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is a self-explanatory objective and that is to be achieved through the contribution of every individual as per her or his capacity. Come let us join together to make this a great success and show the world the true Unity of India.

Politicians sometimes drive communal disharmony in society for their personal or party gain, they try to divide and rule like British rule. In such scenarios effort like this campaign posses great importance. People need to take part in such initiatives so that the government, NGO’s and other civil bodies will initiate more such programs.

Amidst the political debacle, people need to remind that we are one and we need to learn and respect each other’s similarities and differences too. It’s the people who make the country, not the religion, state border or political inclination. We need to preserve our diversity which our ultimate identity.
